Committed to CSR
The Hawaiian business is committed to achieving a balanced Corporate Social Responsibility standard as we seek to contribute to society at an environmental, social and economic level in order to make a positive impact on humanity.
Hawaiian's Corporate Social Responsibility committee is dedicated to ensuring this objective is achieved by:
Setting clear goals to present Hawaiian as a good corporate citizen
Identifying activities to support Hawaiian’s efforts in its endeavours to provide a positive impact environmentally, socially and economically
Providing opportunities for staff to participate in relevant socially responsible programs and activities.
Green Initiatives
Hawaiian’s commitment to contributing to the environment goes beyond the London House. 50 Pitt Street in Sydney was awarded 4 star Green Star V2.0 design rating and a 4 star ABGR rating and 235 St Georges Tce was awarded 5 Star Green Star design rating.
Hawaiian has also incorporated green initiatives into our existing commercial buildings with :
Researching and implementing methods in order to develop Hawaiian to becoming carbon neutral
A recycling program that allows tenants a simple and effective way to recycle.
Opt for your energy to be green
Hawaiian is committed to environmental sustainability as part of our strategy to achieve ‘Green Star’ ratings. More recently, Hawaiian has taken steps to have London House ‘greener’, whilst maintaining high levels of efficiency. The “Opt In for Green Power” program was presented to tenants in the second half of 2008 and nearly all tenants have undertaken the commitment to green power. This initiative was based on the following facts:
Commercial businesses rely heavily on electricity.
90% of Australia’s electricity comes from coal or gas fired generators.
Coal and gas generators produce large amounts of greenhouse gases.
Greenhouse gases trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere leading to global warming.
A few degrees change in the Earth’s atmosphere will have a major impact on life on this planet.
Green energy does exist and can be used by commercial businesses.
With the support of the London House tenants, the majority of the building is achieving a Zero Environmental Pollutants resulting in Carbon Neutral status by switching to Natural Power, a fully accredited National Green Power Program that uses renewable sources and contributes to the renewable energy industry.
Renewable energy provided by Natural Power is currently provided by wind and solar (solar photovoltaic) sources in Western Australia. These energy sources do not emit any greenhouse gases and therefore have much less impact on the environment than the generation of traditional fossil fuel power, such as coal or gas. Water Saving Tips
With the constant improvements in water saving technology, water efficiency is often designed into a building in the early stages. However, you still must follow certain practices in both new and older buildings to ensure water efficiency is maintained. Consider these water saving tips when in the building :
- Report any leaks to the Facilities Manager as soon as you become aware of one.
- Turn off taps properly after use.
- Take shorter showers (4 minutes).
- Use high efficiancy devices where possible especially when replacing devices.
